The 2026 precinct caucuses for Senate District 40 DFL are your gateway into the political process. At the caucuses, DFLers will:
- elect precinct chairs,
- elect delegates to the SD 40 DFL endorsing convention, and
- consider resolutions to be considered for the DFL platform.
Virtual Caucus Learning Session on Feb 1: The SD40 DFL party unit will hold an online discussion on Zoom about caucuses for anyone who has never attended a DFL caucus, wants a refresher, or wants to learn more about how caucuses operate. This online training will take place SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, from 1-3 pm. Please register for the training by completing this quick registration form. Can’t make it? The State DFL has a 5-minute “What to Expect at Caucuses” video on YouTube that covers the fundamentals.
Accommodations: Do you need assistance in order to fully participate in our precinct caucuses? The Minnesota DFL works to provide reasonable accommodations for those who wish to participate in our meetings and programs. To better understand the accommodations you need, we ask that you complete this short form and submit it at least fourteen days in advance (in other words, by January 20). More information is available on the State DFL website: dfl.org/accommodations/
Caucus Rules and Agenda Sheet: The State DFL has done translations of the caucus rules and agenda into SOMALI, ARABIC, SPANISH, HMONG, OROMO, and VIETNAMESE to help you understand what is happening. Click the link below to be taken to the PDF file.

Donations: Please consider donating to Senate District 40 DFL. It costs us money to host the caucuses (such as printing handouts and sending caucus reminder postcards), so every little bit helps. You can donate online via ActBlue or @DFL40Treasury on Venmo. We will happily accept up to $20 in cash on caucus night. If you are donating more cash than that or writing a check, we’ll also need your full name, address, and employer to comply with campaign finance regulations.
Preference Ballot for Governor’s Race: More details will be coming soon. Bookmark this page and visit back soon!
Resolutions: One of the important tasks at each caucus meeting will be considering resolutions to update our party platform. If there is an issue you are passionate about you can propose items for inclusion in the platform. To do that you will need to fill out this resolution form and bring it on Caucus Night (there will also be blank forms available at the caucus).
Time Off From Work: Minnesota Statutes Section 202A.19 permits Minnesota residents to take time off from work without pay to attend precinct caucuses, provided they give their employer written notice at least 10 days in advance. State universities, community colleges, and public schools may not hold classes or events after 6:00 p.m. on the evening of precinct caucuses. State agencies, school boards, county boards, township boards, city councils, and all other political subdivisions may not conduct meetings after 6:00 p.m. on caucus night.
What to do if you can’t attend: If you can’t attend your precinct caucus in-person, you may instead fill out a non-attendee form and email it to our treasurer, Bill Fox, at den.of.foxes@gmail.com no later than Saturday, January 31, 2026. You can fill out a non-attendee form found here in English, Somali, Spanish, and Hmong. To fill out the non-attendee form, you’ll need to know your precinct information, which you can look up here: pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us.
